Executive Presidency will be abolished – Min. Rajitha Senarathne

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne says the Executive Presidency will be entirely abolished under the proposed new Constitution.

The Minister of Health made this statement speaking at a rally in Hiniduma.

Minister Senaratne said a court case could not be filed against the President due to immunity, but now action can be taken.

He said Parliament at any time can criticize the government adding Parliament cannot be dissolved at any time unlike before.

The Minister of Health stated the President sat with his cabinet in Parliament for two days discussing matters and drinking plain tea and somehow secured two thirds.

Minister Senaratne noted the President gave power to others and to the country.

He reiterated under the new Constitution the Executive Presidency will be abolished, and the Parliamentary electoral system changed.

He surmised the present government has instilled a leader, who is here not to take power but to give power.
