UK makes changes in travel advice for Sri Lanka

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The British High Commission in Colombo stated that changes have been made to the United Kingdom (UK)’s travel advice for Sri Lanka.

Issuing a statement the High Commission said the changes come about as they have for countries around the world. The changes amend the way the UK describes the terrorism threat.

The British High Commission stressed that the changes do not reflect an assessment by them that the level of threat in Sri Lanka has changed. It said this has been done as part of a global review of the way the threat from terrorism is described in the travel advice for British nationals.

The High Commission noted it made the changes to ensure that British nationals have clear information on this important issue.

The High Commission further added monsoon rains caused widespread flooding, leading to displacement of people, injuries and deaths, while heavy rains and landslips were also reported last month, and noted that there is a risk from dengue fever as well.
