Another 31,200 of cement imported within past two days

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka claims there is a shortage of cement in the market although 31,200MT of cement was imported within the past two days.

Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, the Chairman of the Association Susantha Liyanaarachchi called on the government to control prices in order to prevent the sale of cement for higher prices.

Liyanaarachchi said there is a severe cement shortage in the market adding the Pricing and Management Division of the Consumer Affairs Authority has failed to control prices.

Liyanaarachchi claimed dealers have formed a mafia by directly purchasing from importers and selling the essential commodity at higher prices to those in dire need.
