(UTV | COLOMBO) – Health unions launch 24-hour strike in North Central Province

The Joint Council for Professions of Supplementary Medicine will launch a strike action at all hospitals in the Western Province on the 19th of January over concerns relating to salary anomalies of health professionals. A strike action is also being carried out at all hospitals in the North Central Province as of 7am today.

This is the ninth strike in a series of strike actions. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Joint Council Ravi Kumudesh speaking at a media briefing said an indefinite island-wide strike action is being planned from the 25th of January.

Kumudesh said supplementary medical professionals, other medical professionals and nursing staff will engage in the strike while field staff at all hospitals in the North Central Province will also join the strike.

He added 15 professional groups including laboratory professionals, radiologists, pharmacists, Public Health Inspectors and family health professionals will join the union action.
