Casino worker death reveals secrets of forced labour in Cambodia

(UTV | CAMBODIA) – Death of a Cambodian girl working in a casino has revealed crimes and mysterious labour cases, after casino owners forced a female worker to continue working even after she was infected with COVID-19, as the illegal casino in Sihanoukville continues to operate illegally in Cambodia until a COVID-19 outbreak got more than 400 employees infected, while a very strict work rules were imposed.

The Coordinator of the Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association’s Sihanoukville Office, Cheab Sotheary said that the casino owners are forcing workers to continue working by charging a fine of 4 times working day wages for anyone goes on sick leave or unable to work, using deception and coercion.
