(UTV | COLOMBO) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended a third-dose or booster dose for those over 60 years of age who have received both doses of the COVID vaccine.
The WHO Expert Advisory Committee has recommended that those who received the Chinese-made Sinopharm and Sinovac COVID vaccines be given a third dose from vaccines such as Pfizer or Moderna.
Sinopharm and Sinovac COVID vaccines are manufactured by the inactivated virus, while Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are manufactured using the chromosome model of the virus.
Experts from the WHO have shown that immunosuppression can be enhanced by giving a chromosome vaccine, such as DNA or RNA to persons who are fully vaccinated with the inactivated vaccine.
Meanwhile, the WHO has called for a third dose of COVID vaccine to be administered to immunocompromised individuals.
This is due to the fact that there is a risk of infection of varieties such as the Delta variant, even if vaccinated.
