Half the population has received one vaccine dose – Health Promotion Bureau

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Director of the Health Promotion Bureau, Consultant Dr. Ranjith Batuwantudawe said that as of now, more than half of the overall population of this country which is 56 per cent has now received at least one dose of the COVID prevention vaccine.

He also said that 26.5 per cent of the population of the country has received both doses of the Covid vaccines under the COVID Prevention National Immunization Programme.

He made these comments yesterday (25) at a media briefing of the Health Promotion Bureau.

Speaking further Dr. Batuwantudawe said that giving at least one dose of the vaccination to the population of over 30 years of age has been completed 100 per cent and 50 per cent of them have received the second dose as well, by now.

Of the population of this country, 12,149, 634 have received at least one vaccine dose and 5,949,431 have been vaccinated with the second dose as well.

The Epidemiology Unit said that overall, 403,285 of the overall population of this country have been infected with the COVID virus.

The total number of patients who were infected with Covid but have recovered as of yesterday (25) is 348,930 and another 48,958 persons have either been hospitalized or are under treatment at intermediary treatment centers.
