(UTV | COLOMBO) – China has donated eight state-of-the-art Chronic Kidney Disease Screening Vehicles or mobile laboratories worth Rs.660 million to Sri Lanka.
The commissioning took place at eight Chronic Kidney Disease affected areas.
The areas include Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Ampara, Kurunagala, Matale, and Badulla.
The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka said Sri Lankans, especially those in rural area, are suffering from kidney related illnesses, known as the “silent killer”, as patients live with the disease for years before showing symptoms.
The Embassy noted that early screening and detection will spare patients with limited healthcare access.
The Embassy said the eight screening vehicles are part of joint efforts to change the CKDs status quo in Sri Lanka following the Friendship & National Nephrology Hospital in Polonnaruwa for treatment, and Joint Research & Demonstration Centre for Water Technology in Kandy to find the cause.
China stated that personnel training and examining equipment is an important part of the donation, prior to the eight mobile labs being commissioned.
