Aduba, Olyphant are sports “Champions”

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Uzo Aduba, Timothy Olyphant, Andrew Bachelor, Alexander Ludwig, David Koechner and Tim Blake Nelson have joined the cast of Ric Roman Waugh’s sports drama feature “National Champions” for STX.

Based on Adam Mervis’ play of the same name, the story follows a star quarterback (Stephan James) who ignites a player’s strike 72 hours before the biggest game of the year.

He does so in order to fight for fair compensation, equality, and respect for the athletes who put their bodies and health on the line for their schools. J.K. Simmons also stars.

Aduba (“In Treatment”) will play Katherine, the outside counsel to the NCAA. Olyphant (“Justified”) will play a hipster professor at the college. Ludwig (“Vikings”) will play a tight end who joins with James’ fight.

Bachelor (“Greenland”) will play Taylor is a football team booster, Koechner (“Anchorman”) will play one of the conference heads and Nelson (“Watchmen”) will play a wild, funny car dealer who is the head of the team’s booster club.

Shooting is underway this month in New Orleans. Basil Iwanyk, Brendon Boyea and Greg Economou produce.
