“Metro Exodus” enhanced sets major precedent

(UTV | COLOMBO) – 4A Games and Deep Silver have announced a massive update of their post-apocalyptic first-person shooter “Metro Exodus”.

The free and extensive upgrade takes advantage of ray tracing advancements – ripping out all the game’s existing ‘baked’ lighting and replacing it with full ray-traced lighting to add a level of authenticity to the game.

All versions will get ray-traced global illumination and emissive lighting with the PC version also including advanced ray-traced reflections and NVIDIA DLSS 2.0 support (but no AMD FidelityFX support). The update also adds 4K texture packs and a field of view slider to all versions.

The upgrade now makes this the first major video game title to be fully lit by ray-tracing techniques – as a result, it will only work on PCs with NVIDIA RTX & AMD 6000 series graphics cards, PS5 and Xbox Series X & S.

Dubbed the definitive version of the game, the title runs at a ‘rock solid’ 4K/60fps on both PS5 & Xbox Series X (and at 1080p/60fps on Xbox Series S). All the next-gen consoles will also have reduced loading times, while the PS5 version has 3D spatial sound and DualSense controller enhancements.

The standalone enhanced edition for PC is now available for free to existing ‘Exodus’ owners with the PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades coming on June 18th. For those who don’t have the game, “Metro Exodus: Definitive Edition” is available and includes both versions of the game along with the DLC.
