(UTV| COLOMBO) – Amazon Game Studios has announced that they have cancelled a massively multiplayer online role-playing video game based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy novels “The Lord of the Rings” reports Bloomberg.
The decision is said to be the result of a contractual dispute between Amazon and Chinese corporate monolith Tencent who purchased game co-developer Leyou Technologies.
This marks another setback for Amazon Game Studios who reportedly has struggled to release a successful title since launching in 2014 and joins projects “Breakaway” and “Crucible” which both were scuttled.
It also comes as Amazon is in production of a mega-budget “The Lord of the Rings” series while the 4K remaster of Peter Jackson’s original trilogy just had a re-relese in China this weekend where the rollout was somewhat bungled.
