“Narcos: Mexico” renewed for Season 3

Netflix has announced that “Narcos: Mexico” has been renewed for a third season. The new season will see both a changing of the guard and the return of a familiar face.

Series showrunner Eric Newman will exit that role after holding it for both the original three seasons of “Narcos” and the first two seasons of “Narcos: Mexico”. Series co-creator Carlos Bernard will now take over the reins. Newman will remain an executive producer.

In addition actor Wagner Moura, who played Pablo Escobar in the first two seasons of “Narcos,” will direct two episodes of the new season.

This year the show will examine the war that breaks out after Felix’s empire splinters. As newly independent cartels struggle to survive political upheaval and escalating violence, a new generation of Mexican kingpins emerge.

Diego Luna led the first two seasons but is not returning for the new run. Cast for the upcoming season includes Scoot McNairy, Jose Maria Yazpik, Alberto Ammann, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, Matt Letscher, Manuel Masalva, Alejandro Edda, and Gorka Lasaosa.
