SLMC to file petition against 20 Amendment

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress says it will file a petition before the Supreme Court today, challenging the draft bill of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

Leader of the SLMC, Parliamentarian Rauf Hakeem said several clauses included in the proposed amendment are inconsistent.

A total of 18 petitions have been filed before the Supreme Court thus far challenging the proposed 20th Constitutional Amendment.

Several political parties and civil society groups have filed petitions against the amendment.

All petitions will be taken up for consideration tomorrow before a five-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
