Wrestling National Pool training commences on July 20

UTV | COLOMBO – The Wrestling Federation of Sri Lanka (WFSL) is hoping to conduct three National-level tournaments before the end of the year while targetting a number of future international assignments.

The WFSL will conduct the National Championship, Intermediates Tournament, and a Selection Trial Meet, after which National Pool training would commence from July 20 at the Torrington Indoor Sports Complex.

The 20-member National Pool will comprise 14 wrestlers who won medals at the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) held in Kathmandu, Nepal, last year.

After resuming National Pool training, the WFSL has scheduled the selection trial meets in future to expand the pool to 30 members, which will include 20 Men and 10 Women. Meanwhile, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the election of office-bearers of the WFSL will be held on August 31 at the Sports Ministry Auditorium in Colombo. Some major changes are expected in the key positions of the WFSL and the accepting of nominations concluded yesterday.

Incumbent President of WFSL Priyankara Perera will not be seeking re-election while WFSL Secretary Sarath Hewavitharana is expected to contest for the top post.
