COVID-19 cases increase to 1,628

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Another eight individuals who contracted the coronavirus have been confirmed in the country increasing the number of cases to 1,628.

Seven of the eight have been identified as overseas returnees while the other is a Navy personnel.

20 individuals who contracted COVID-19 recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said the number of persons who recovered after contracting COVID-19 increased to 801 today.

10 COVID-19 patients were discharged from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases yesterday, while five were discharged from the Colombo East Base Hospital, four from the Homagama Base Hospital and one individual from the Navy Hospital.

Among the confirmed cases are 759 Navy personnel and individuals who associated them and 520 Lankan returnees from overseas.

Accordingly, 817 COVID-19 patients are currently receiving medical treatment at nine hospitals across the country.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 74 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation at present.

10 deaths in the country have also been linked to COVID-19.
