‘Price increase of rice a triumph for consumers’

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister Bandula Gunawardana says the price increase of two types of rice, is a triumph for consumers.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet Decision Media Briefing Minister Gunawardana said there will be no rice shortages in the market as a result of the increment.

Moreover, the Cabinet has approved a gazette presented by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Minister of Finance with regard to the importation of goods.

He noted that all goods are categorized into four sections accordingly adding the list was approved by the Cabinet.

He stressed the Cabinet paper was introduced with the aim to revitalize the local economy and prevent unnecessary importation of goods.

However Minister Gunawardana noted if anyone, such as factory owners who are unable to procure required goods or others who are in need of essential items, are faced with concerns regarding the restrictions, they are free to file their appeals via email to the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance.
