President orders for new prison in Watareka

(UTV|COLOMBO) –  The Department of Prisons has made preliminary plans to establish a new prison within the premises of Suneetha Vidyalaya in Watareka, Sri Lanka’s first prison school.

The Department is taking these measures under the directives of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Inmates of the Magazine Prison in Welikada informed President Rajapaksa of the lack of space at the prison when the President visited the prison last Monday (10).

Considering these remarks, the President has instructed the Prisons Department to build a new prison within the Suneetha Vidyalaya premises, which is located on 38 acres of land in Watareka.

Further, President Rajapaksa has also instructed the Prisons Department to take appropriate measures regarding the security of prisons.

Accordingly, it has been decided to utilize the protection of the Police Special Task Force (STF) at the Boossa Prison.
