2 arrested at BIA with 59,980 cigarettes

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Two Lankans have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for the illegal possession of a stock of cigarettes worth more than Rs.3.5 million.

The two arrived in the island from Abu Dhabi early this morning.

287 cartons containing 59,980 sticks of cigarettes were seized by the Airport Customs.

Another 129 cigarette packs were found in their luggage.

The suspects, residents of Maligawatte and Gothatuwa, were fined Rs.70,000.

The cigarettes were confiscated.
