Sajith Premadasa’s faction says no to abolishing executive presidency

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The United National Party (UNP) group led by Minister Sajith Premadasa has informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that they are against any move to abolish the executive presidency before the presidential election is held.

Minister Harin Fernando said any move on abolishing the executive presidency should happen after the presidential election.

“We have objected to any move to abolish the executive presidency. The group, led by Sajith Premadasa, informed the Premier of this opinion prior to the Cabinet meeting. Any move on this should happen after the presidential election. It is not correct to abolish executive presidency in a time where a presidential election has been called,” he has stated.
