Resettlement Ministry constructs 11,253 houses in war affected areas

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M. Swaminathan said that his ministry has constructed 11,253 houses in war affected areas in Northern and Eastern provinces and in border villages in Puttlam, Anuradhapura, and Polonnaruwa districts in 2016.

According to him, the ministry has renovated 2,170 partly damaged houses, 171 roads, 41 pre-schools, 29 schools, and 23 hospitals.

It has also granted provisions for 104 free domestic electricity connections, 3,371 water supply connections, 47 RO plants and livelihood facilities for 12,050 families (each family Rs.100, 000).

About 7,598 toilets, 1,202 common wells, and 29 community water projects have also been constructed for the affected people by the ministry, he added.
