“Must tackle terrorism with new technology” – PM

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the global community should work together to tackle terrorist activities using new technology and strategies, pointing out that it is a challenge to ensure national security as well as the emotional wellbeing of misled people.

The Prime Minister expressed these views during a meeting with visiting Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid at the Temple Trees yesterday.

The Maldivian Minister said at a time that global terrorism is taking place disregarding borders or religious teachings, the Maldives is also working to strengthen defence cooperation with other countries in the region including Sri Lanka.

Minister Abdullah Shahid pointed out the importance of exchanging specialized information between the two countries to tackle extremism.

The Foreign Minister during his visit, also called on Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, and Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa.
