Govt plans to increase trains operating during office hours

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The government has made plans to increase the number of trains operating during office hours, when health authorities issue instructions to resume railway services.

Responding to a question raised by Parliamentarian Ajith Rajapakse during the adjournment debate in Parliament yesterday, State Minister Dilum Amunugama said three new semi express trains will operate during office hours, from Kalutara, Kurunegala and Veyangoda.

He added instructions have also been issued to shuttle trains, instead of only one train journey operating.

State Minister Amunugama said however based on health advice passenger trains will not operate for two weeks.

He added trains are due to resume services from the 19th of October.

The State Minister said health guidelines have already been issued for railway operations.
