Consumer Rights Activist Asela Sampath arrested by CID

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Consumer Rights Activist Asela Sampath was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) last night (25).

Sampath, the President of the All Island Canteen Owners’ Association (AICOA) and the President of the Foundation for People’s Right Protection (FPRP), was taken into the custody over alleged misinformation on social media regarding the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID‑19 Vaccine being given in the country.

The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by the General Superintendent of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) and he is due to be produced before Court today (26), the Police Media Spokesperson, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said.
