54 UNP members expelled from party

UTV | COLOMBO – The Working Committee of the United National Party has decided to expel 54 UNP members who filed nominations from other political parties at the 2020 General Election.

The UNP said 61 members of local government bodies have also been expelled from the UNP for not supporting party activities during the period leading up to the Parliamentary Election.

Termination letters are to be sent to respective individuals shortly.

Earlier, the UNP Working Committee suspended the membership of 99 members for working against the party.

The Civil Appeal High Court and the Colombo District Court previously rejected the petitions filed by a group of UNPers who were suspended from the party.
