Indonesia Tsunami: Sri Lanka condoles the loss of lives in Indonesia

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Government on Sunday (30) condoled with Indonesia and its people, stating that it was saddened by the devastating tsunami in Indonesia.

President Maithripala Sirisena tweeted saying Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the people of Indonesia in this hour of grief.

“Saddened to hear about the devastating tsunami in Indonesia. My deepest condolences to the families of those affected. Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the people of Indonesia in this hour of grief,” he tweeted.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “We in Sri Lanka are deeply saddened by the loss of life and damages caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, Government and people of Indonesia. We stand in solidarity with them at this difficult time.”

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also tweeted stating that, “Deeply saddened to see Indonesia facing another tragic earthquake and tsunami. We faced this together many years ago and still remember the pain. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Indonesia. May you find the strength once again to rebuild from this terrible disaster.”

The death toll on the Island of Sulawesi stands at 832 people, but Indonesian Officials expect that number to climb as rescuers on Monday (01) continue to sift through the destruction left by a powerful earthquake and tsunami.
