Train hits Five Elephants in Puwakpitiya

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Train services along the Batticaloa railway have been temporarily suspended as a train collided with three elephants.

The incident took place at Puwakpitiya area between Palugasweva and Galoya  around 4.00 AM this morning (18).

Five elephants have died after being hit by a train transporting fuel from Kolonnawa to Batticaloa.

An Official of the Railway Control Room confirmed the accident had occurred in Puwakpitiya, and the train had derailed due to the accident.
