Welikada Prison Riot Suspects Further Remanded

(UTV|COLOMBO) The then Welikada Prisons Superintendent and current Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa and Inspector of Police Niyomal Rangajeewa attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau, arrested over the 2012 Welikada prison riot.

At least 27 prison inmates were killed and several others were injured in clashes between inmates and guards at the Welikada prison in November 2012.

Suspects have been further remanded until the 21st of August by Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage.
