Train strike called off [UPDATE]

(UTV|COLOMBO) – UPDATE: The Railway Trade Union collective announced they have decided to call off their planned-strike following discussions with Authorities.

(UTV|COLOMBO) Several railway trade unions including the Locomotive Engineering Operators’ Union have decided to launch a 48-hour token strike from midnight today(30) , over several demands including concerns surrounding salary anomalies.

The special cabinet-approved committee had agreed to resolve several issues in the industry and also to address concerns surrounding salary anomalies, the Sarath Amunugama-Committee had failed to implement its proposals, LEOU Secretary Indika Dodangoda said.

LEOU Secretary added the unions will resort to an indefinite strike in the future, if the authorities failed to address their demands.
