Government to implement death penalty for drug traffickers, regardless of GSP Plus

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Government would implement the death penalty directive given by President Maithripala Sirisena even if it leads to the loss of Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus), Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.

He made this remarks at the Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday (25).

The Minister clarified that the death penalty would be implemented on those who were already convicted on drug related offences and who continue to trade drugs while being behind bars.
