Former Maldives President Nasheed meets MDP supporters in Sri Lanka as part of campaign

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Former President Mohamed Nasheed met with Maldivians living in Sri Lanka as part of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s presidential campaign, RaajjeMV reported.

MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef, Vice President Mohamed Shifaz and North-Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam were also at the event.

At the event, Nasheed also discussed with senior MDP officials on how to carry on the campaign in Sri Lanka.

This is the first time Nasheed met with his supporters after he withdrew his bid for presidency after the Elections Commission (EC) maintained that he would not be allowed to contest the election, citing his prison conviction as the reason.

MDP’s parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has since been elected as the party’s candidate at their third congress, in which Nasheed, via video conferencing, congratulated Solih and vowed to be the most hardworking activist to get him elected.
