Bus strike called off as Government agrees to increase fare

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Private bus operators have called off their bus strike which was scheduled to be launched at midnight, following talks with the Government on Wednesday (16).

The decision was taken following discussions held with the Transport and Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Ashok Abeysinghe last evening.

It has been agreed at the meeting to increase the bus fares by 12.5% and increase the minimum fare from Rs. 10 to Rs. 12.

Accordingly, the Cabinet paper with the new bus fare revision will be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers on 22 March.
