Rideegama deaths: “Murder-suicide” suspected

UTV | COLOMBO – The bodies of a husband and his wife were found from a house in Rideegama, Kurunegala yesterday (May 08).

Investigations revealed that the husband had first killed the wife by strangulating her, before committing suicide by hanging.

Police said the couple, who had a 10-year-old son and 4-year-old twin girls, was reportedly quarrelling with each other due to family issues, constantly.

At the time of the incident, the son was at the house while the 2 daughters were with their grandmother.

The incident had occurred on the night of 7th and the deceased woman was 29-year-old Dinusha Manohari.

The husband was aged 34, named Anil Kulatunga.

The father of the woman said that the son-in-law contacted them at around 8 pm and informed him that his daughter has committed suicide by hanging inside the house.

He told police when he rushed to that house he saw the son-in-law had committed suicide by hanging on an avocado tree, opposite the house, using a wire.

The Magisterial Inquiry was conducted by the Rambadagalla Acting Magistrate and he had ordered postmortems to be conducted at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
