Upcountry Tamil parties clash on May Day, Thalawakele tense

UTV | COLOMBO – Police say a tense situation was prevailing at the Thalawakele town yesterday afternoon.

It arose when the supporters of Ceylon Workers’ Congress were confronted by the supporters of the Tamil Progressive Alliance at the Thalawakele town.

Our correspondent said riot police was called in to control the situation.

The May Day rally of the TPA was held in Thalawakele and the supporters had attempted to attack the buses transporting CWC supporters to their rally in Nuwara Eliya.
