8 Lankans trapped in a ship for four months, rescued

(UDHAYAM, SANA’A) – The ministry of external affairs say that 8 Sri Lankans who were trapped in a ship for over 4 months in Yemen; a nation currently undergoing civil war, have been rescued.

A senior spokesperson for the ministry noted that they were rescued upon the involvement of the Sri Lanka embassy in Oman.

Previously the government made a rescue attempt in order to free these Sri Lankans which proved to be futile due to the civil war in the country.

The ship belonging to the government of Dubai was en route from Oman to Yemen.

Officials in Yemen had not permitted the departure of the ship noting that there was no sufficient fuel to permit the departure.
