Navy completes second stage of Delft Jetty Project

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The second stage of Delft Jetty Project which was successfully completed under the auspices of the Northern Naval Command was declared open by Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva and the District Secretary of Jaffna, Mr. N. Vethanayahan recently.

Further, this occasion was also attended by Deputy Area Commander Northern Naval Area, Commodore Senarath Wijesuriya, senior naval officers, dignitaries, sailors and a large number of residents. The construction work of stage II commenced after successfully completion of stage I and the Navy had undertaken the entire construction work by providing man power and transporting building materials from the KKS harbour to the Delft Island. The financial resources for the construction were provided by the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs through the District Secretary, Jaffna.

With the completion of this jetty, it will possess a depth of over 2 meters allowing fishing trawlers, sea ambulance and other passenger ferries to be secured alongside conveniently.
