Troops conduct Dengue Eradication Program in Jaffna

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Army troops carried out a Dengue Eradication Program in Jaffna recently.

According to army media sources, more than 1,000 army personnel including officers and soldiers of 51, 52 and 55 Divisions of the Security Force Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J) took part in the week long (14th -22nd Jan.) program held covering 143 rural school in the Jaffna Peninsula.

The Dengue Eradication program was conducted in response to a request made by state and health sector authorities there in order to obtain the assistance of the security forces to contain the spread of the deadly disease in the region.

Troops, with the assistance of students, teachers and the general public cleaned up schools in Nallur, Thenmarachchi, Vadamarachchi East, Vadamarachchi North, Vadamarachchi South-West, Valikamam East, Valikamam North, Valikamam South and Valikamam in the South-West Divisional Secretariat areas. A similar ‘clean-up’ drive was also carried out by the SFHQ-J covering 67 Jaffna schools earlier in the month (7th -8th January).
