“JO says government ignorant to message behind Nugegoda rally” – Dilum Amunugama

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Joint Opposition (JO) says the government is impeding on the democratic right of the people by continuing to delay local government elections. MP Dilum Amunugama addressing a public forum in Kandy said the first step of the public resistance to the absence of elections was the rally held in Nugegoda on Friday.

MP Amunugama said the rally on Friday was not held to exhibit support for the Joint Opposition. He said it was held to express public protest. The Parliamentarian said, “The government though seems to fail to comprehend the message conveyed by the public through this gathering which is evident in their responses”.

MP Dilum Amunugama also said the government believes there is no one to challenge it due to the absence of an election. He said, “The government can claim public support as long as there is no election”.
