Brutal ragging at P’deniya University under investigation

UTV | COLOMBO – Police have launched investigations into the alleged brutal ragging of a first year student of the Arts Faculty attached to the University of Peradeniya.

It is reported that the student who was subject to the torment is currently receiving in-patient treatment at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

It was reported that the first year student was forcefully kidnapped by three senior students of the university at the Galaha Junction whilst returning to the university from his residence.

Subsequently, the student had been taken to a desolate location and subjected to brutal ragging.

However, the three seniors had attempted to admit him to a private hospital in Kandy after the student lost consciousness.

Once details had been revealed over the incident, university security divisions had taken steps to transfer and admit the ragged student to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

The University Administration has also launched an investigation into the alleged incident.
