MP Wimal Weerawansa further remanded

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian (MP) Wimal Weerawansa and Former Deputy General Manager of the State Engineering Corporation Samantha Lokuhannage, arrested on charges of misusing state vehicles during the previous tenure of the UPFA led government, have been further remanded till the 7th February.

The order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne. Attorneys representing MP Wimal Weerawansa made a verbal petition for his bail, however the petition was rejected. MP Weerawansa was previously summoned to record a statement over the misuse of around 40 state vehicles.

The Parliamentarian had allegedly distributed the vehicles to his relatives and friends during his term as Minister of Housing and Common Amenities.

Accordingly, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court issued an order to further remand MP Weerawansa till today after he was arrested on the 10th of January.
