Troops assist to clear railway passage in Up-Country line

(UTV|COLOMBO) – More than 50 Army personnel of the Security Force Headquarters – Central (SFHQ-C), responding to an SOS appeal of the Railways Department rose to the occasion and commenced clearing the mound of earth that has obstructed the railway passage between Ohiya and Idalgasinna in the Badulla District this morning (29).

Troops used a train to reach the affected place along with railway workers since there was no other means of arriving at the location where a mudslide had occurred the previous evening on Tuesday (28).

Troops and railway workers by this afternoon (29) had succeeded in clearing the railway passage partly but the fall of another mudslide again has been hampering the clearance work for resumption of train services in the upcountry line as this report was pasted.
