Two-week cleaning program from tomorrow

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine have taken steps to launch a two-week cleaning program with the public participation to combat Dengue epidemic from Wednesday (28).

The program aimed at controlling mosquito density being increased due to the rain fall will be implemented under the directive of President Maithripala Sirisena and Health Minister Rajitha Senarathne.

It will be assisted by the Ministries of Provincial Councils and Local Government, and Defence.
According to the National Dengue Prevention Campaign sources, so far nearly 70,000 Dengue patients have been reported and 25 percent of them are below age 19.

Meanwhile, a group of 100 Civil Security Department personnel have been deployed to assist in providing medical facilities to the Dengue patients and they have been attached to Negombo, Ragama, Kalubowila, Ratnapura, Gampaha, Kandana, Dankotuwa, Thalangama, Piliyandala, Wethara, and Homagama Hospitals.
