Army Commander observes affected areas in Matara

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Army Commander Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva yesterday (05) visited flood affected areas in Morawaka, Akuressa and Matara with the objective of receiving an update on on-going post-disaster developments, status quo of emergency relief services and preparedness for eventualities, if any.

In Matara, the Commander participated in a post-disaster relief meeting, held at the 3rd Gemunu Watch Headquarters, attended by District Secretaries of Matara and Galle, Divisional Secretaries, Disaster Management Centre Officials, Tri Service officers, Police and other relevant officials. He also joined a meeting at Matara where President Maithripala Sirisena presided over a coordinating conference on relief operations.

Later on, the Commander went to Morawaka and Akuressa areas and inspected the ongoing relief work.
