Sixteen Divisions in Matara affected by weather

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – 16 Divisional Secretariats in the Matara district have been affected as a result of the adverse weather conditions in the country.

District Secretary Pradeep Ratnayake said all individuals are on alert with regard to the prevalent weather.

He said officials have been informed to hand out food and essential items to those affected adding these efforts are underway on a district secretariat level, additionally boats have been deployed for rescue efforts and Navy personnel have arrived at the scene as well.

He stated water levels of the Nilwala River have receded.

However Ratnayake noted those who have been displaced have been rescued via boats.
