Sri Lanka to boost ties with France under Macron

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday (08) congratulated France’s centrist politician Emmanuel Macron on his remarkable Presidential Election victory saying his election would provide a “Great platform” for the two countries’ relations to prosper.

“Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on your remarkable victory. It provides a great platform for relations between our nations to prosper,” President Sirisena said in a Twitter post.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Ministry congratulating Mr. Macron on being elected as President of France said Sri Lanka looks forward to building stronger ties with the European nation.

Mr. Macron has decisively won the French Presidential Election, defeating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen by 66.06% to 33.94% to become, at 39, the country’s youngest President. He will also become the first President from outside the two traditional main parties since the modern republic’s foundation in 1958.
