Roads blocked amid flash floods in Texas

(UTV | UNITED STATES) – Flash floods and torrential rain led a stormy weekend in Texas, United States, forcing hundreds to move to safer locations.

At least one hiker was reported to have been swept away in the floods and was still missing Monday in the latest weather disasters hitting national parks in the United States.

The flash floods in Texas came days after a long spell of exceptional drought that hit the state’s otherwise tinder dry southwest region, with several inches of rain falling in the span of two days.

Videos and images were widely circulated online showing inundated roads and cars partially submerged in flood waters as they drove through overnight.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads,” said the National Weather Service.
