New transport service for school students

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Education has decided to start a new bus service using private buses for school students from the 1st of August 2022.

The decisions have been taken as a solution to the current transportation difficulties and rising school bus fares.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education said that these buses are to be deployed targeting the opening and closing times of the schools.

Fuel will be released through the SLTB depots for the buses transporting school students.

Moreover, the Ministry of Education said that it has planned to regularize the bus service for students.

Due to the transportation difficulties and lack of fuel, schools are currently operating only three days a week.

The Ministry of Education noted that discussions will be held on Saturday (30) regarding a way of conducting schools for the upcoming week.
