CEB introduces three new methods for issuing bills

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Ceylon Electricity Board has introduced three new methods of issuing electricity bills instead of the existing method of providing pre-printed bills.

Accordingly, any consumers who expect physical bills, will be issued printed bills using thermal paper during monthly meter reading.

Steps were also taken to issue the monthly electricity bill through a text message to the phone number registered with the CEB after obtaining the meter reading through a text message.

Consumers can also obtain the bill through the mobile application CEBCare.

CEB said the three new methods of issuing bills were introduced as another step in the ongoing program aimed at providing a more efficient consumer service as well as digitalizing state departments.

Furthermore, the Ceylon Electricity Board said the necessary technical procedures are currently being carried out to issue electricity bills through e-mail as the fourth method of issuing bills.

The CEB said a decision was reached to implement this program as it is not viable to print and distribute electricity bills in advance due to the prevailing paper shortage.

The CEB believes the adoption of these new methods will not only increase efficiency, but will also contribute to saving more than Rs.1 billion annually considering the rising cost in printing bills.
