Two die after fainting in a pit with contaminated water

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Two individuals have died after fainting in a pit that was dug to drain contaminated water from a residence in Yatiyana, Biyagama.

The pit was designed to drain contaminated water from a site where a new house was being constructed.

One individual fainted in the pit while trying to remove concrete supports attached to it, while four others who attempted to help the individual out, had also fainted.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated a 51 and 63-year-old died upon admission to hospital.

SSP Thalduwa said an individual, with an oxygen tank, supported the five individuals out of the pit.

The five individuals were admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital with two persons still in critical condition. One individual has since been discharged.

The post-mortem examinations were conducted while the Judicial Medical Officer has submitted a report in this regard.
