Plans revealed to increase coconut oil prices

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The All Ceylon Traditional Coconut Oil Manufacturer’s Association accuses several multinational companies of attempting to create a shortage and increase coconut oil prices during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period.

The Association said large-scale companies have implemented a plan to conceal stocks of coconut oil.

Speaking to media, Convenor of the Association Buddhika de Silva said traditional coconut oil manufacturers are producing 100 percent of the oil required for household consumption.

de Silva said local refineries are concealing metric tonnes of coconut oil stocks in their storages.

He claimed multinational companies are attempting to create queues for coconut oil, further burdening the public and complicating matters for the government.

de Silva urged relevant authorities to extend their support so that traditional coconut oil manufacturers will be able to provide their product to the public at a reasonable price.
