New School Term begins today

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The new school term of 2022 begins on Monday (7).

According to a new circular issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Education on how to start the new school term, all classes with 20 students or less must function on all days.

The circular points out that classes with student numbers between 20 – 40 should be divided into two groups, and their academic activities must be carried out every other week.

If the number of students studying in a class is more than 40, the academic activities should be divided into three equal sections.

According to the new circular, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education has informed the Provincial Secretaries of Education, Education Authorities, and Principals that the relevant subject areas should be covered using alternative learning methods for groups of students who are not attending school.

Meanwhile, permission has been granted to re-open school canteens in line with health guidelines.

Accordingly, one student should be assigned to make orders on behalf of the entire class of those who require food from the canteen, and school authorities must ensure that the food is prepared in time and delivered to the students, as per the guidelines.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Examinations, Rasika Samarakoon said that the evaluation of the GCE Advanced Level Examination will be carried out until the 12th of this month and 7 schools will be completely closed during that period.
